If you’re listening to any sort of audio on your Chromebook, whether you’re watching a video, listening to music or a podcast, or taking part in a video call. You will likely want to turn the volume up or down to make it louder or quieter. So in this article, that’s exactly what I’m going to show you how to do.

How To Change The Volume On A Chromebook
There are actually three different ways to change the volume on a Chromebook, and we’re going to take a look at all of them.
Method 1
The first (and probably easiest) way to change the volume on your Chromebook is to use the three volume keys in the top row of the keyboard. In the top row of your Chromebook’s keyboard, you’ll see a key with a speaker icon on it, and next to that will be another key with a smaller speaker icon on it.
So, if you press the key with the smaller speaker icon, the volume will be turned down.
Or, if you press the key with the larger speaker icon, the volume will be turned up.
And, as you adjust the volume, you’ll see a slider appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen showing you what level the volume is at.
Tip: If you press and hold either of these keys, the volume will go up or down much faster.
And if you want to mute the volume so that your Chromebook won’t make any sound at all, you could press the volume down key and turn the volume right down to nothing.
Or, you could just press the key next to those two keys that has a speaker icon with a line through it.
This key will immediately mute the volume with a single press. And the volume slider will pop up on the screen showing you that the volume is muted.
Then, when you want to unmute the volume and have the sound back again, all you need to do is press the volume up key and that will unmute it and set the volume back to the level it was before it was muted.
And that’s all there is to it! That was simple, wasn’t it? But, if for some reason you don’t like this method or you don’t have these keys on your keyboard, you do still have two other options.
Method 2
The second method is all done on the screen, so if you don’t want to touch your keyboard, or you’re using your Chromebook in tablet mode, this will be the way to go. To do this method, you’ll just need to click (or tap) on the time in the bottom right hand corner of the screen…
And then this menu will appear with a lot of different options.
(The menu might be a lot smaller on your Chromebook, but if it is, just click (or tap) on the up arrow to expand it, and then it should look the same as mine.)
Now, near the bottom of this menu, you’ll see a volume slider that you can slide to turn the volume up or down.
So if you slide it to the far right hand side of the screen, the volume will be turned up to the maximum level.
Or if you slide it closer left side, the volume will be very quiet.
And that’s all there is to it! Whether you’re using your Chromebook as a laptop or tablet, that’s another easy way to adjust the volume. But, depending on your Chromebook, there might be a third option.
Method 3
You can’t use this method on all Chromebooks, but you can on a lot of newer Chromebooks so I thought I’d mention it anyway. If you look around the sides of your Chromebook, you might find volume up and down buttons just like you would find on a phone or tablet.
These buttons on your Chromebook might not look exactly the same as mine, but if they’re there at all, they should be fairly similar.
And if your Chromebook does have these buttons, once you’ve found them, you can simply press one of the buttons to turn the volume down, and the other one to turn the volume back up.
I can’t really say for sure which of these buttons will turn the volume up and which one will turn the volume down because that will vary depending on your Chromebook and where the buttons are located, but if you just try pressing one of them and see what happens, you should figure it out pretty quickly.
And once you get used to it, these buttons can be another really handy way to turn the volume up or down.
So, that’s all there is to changing the speaker volume on a Chromebook, but if you want to change the microphone volume on your Chromebook so that your voice will sound louder or quieter in voice recordings or video calls and things like that, you’ll learn how to do that in this article here.

I think you might have reached the maximum volume that your Chromebook can go. Laptops don’t always have the loudest speakers.
