How To Make A Folder On A Chromebook
To create a folder on your Chromebook, you’ll obviously need to open the Files app, and then you’ll need to open the location you want your folder to be in. I’m going to create my folder in the Downloads folder, but you could create one in Google Drive or anywhere else you like.
Once you’re in the location you want the folder to be in, click on the three dots in the top right hand corner of the screen…
And then, in the menu that appears, click “New folder”.
Now, you’ll see your new folder is created and it’s named “New folder”.
When you first create it, the name will be highlighted in blue which means it’s ready to be renamed, so now, all you need to do is type whatever you want the folder to be named, and then press the enter key on your keyboard when you’re done to save the name.
And that’s all there is to it! Now You have a new folder on your Chromebook with the name of your choice!
How To Move Files Into A Folder On A Chromebook
Now that you have a new folder, you’ll probably want to move some files into it. You can move one file at a time into the folder by simply clicking on the file and dragging it so that it’s on top of the folder, and then let go of it and it will be moved into the folder.
But, if you want to move a whole lot of files at once into the folder, you’ll need to select them all by either holding down the control key on your keyboard and clicking on each one that you want to select, or clicking on the top file, holding down the shift key, and clicking on the bottom file to quickly select them all at once.
And then, just click on any one of the selected files (it doesn’t matter which one) and drag and drop it into the folder just like you would do with one file, and all the files you selected will follow it into the folder.
Now, if you double click on the folder to go inside it, you’ll see all the files you selected are now inside the folder.
How To Move Files Out Of A Folder On A Chromebook
If you want to move the files back out of the folder, it’s really a very similar process.
Just select them all by either holding down the control key on your keyboard and clicking on each one that you want to select, or clicking on the top file, holding down the shift key, and clicking on the bottom file to quickly select them all at once.
And then you’ll need to click and drag them back to the folder that your folder is inside. If you look at the top of the screen, you’ll see the name of your folder (eg: Timmy’s New Folder), and then before that will be an arrow, followed by the name of the folder that your folder is inside (eg: Downloads).
So, to move your files out of the folder, you’ll need to drag them up to Downloads (or whatever folder your folder is inside) and drop them in there. Then, your files will be back outside your folder.
How To Rename A Folder On A Chromebook
If you want to rename your folder, all you have to do is right click on the folder (two finger click on a trackpad), and then, in the menu that appears, click rename.
Now, the folder’s current name will be highlighted like this:
And all you have to do is type the new name you want, and press the enter key on your keyboard to save it.
And that’s all there is to it! Now it’s renamed!
How To Delete A Folder On A Chromebook
If you want to delete your folder, all you have to do is single click on it (click on it once so that it’s selected rather than clicking on it twice so that it opens), and then click on the trash icon in the top right hand corner.
And then you’ll see a popup message asking if you’re sure you want to delete the folder. It’s important to remember that any files inside the folder will also be permanently deleted and you won’t be able to get them back, so you should only do this if you’re sure you don’t want any of the files in the folder.
But as long as you’re sure, go ahead and click “Delete”, and the folder and any files inside it will be deleted.
How To Add Folders To The Desktop On A Chromebook
I’ve had a lot of people asking me how they can add folders to the desktop on their Chromebook. Unfortunately, on a Chromebook, you actually can’t add any files or folders to the desktop.
And that’s all there is to it! You now know how to create a folder on your Chromebook, and move files into it, move files out of it, rename it, and delete it.
