Whenever you connect your Chromebook to a new wifi network, it will automatically save the login details so that it can re-connect automatically next time you’re within range of the network. This is usually very handy as it allows you to stay connected without having to put much thought into it.
But, if you connect to a wifi network once, and then never want to connect to it again, this feature can become quite annoying because your Chromebook will continue trying to reconnect to that network whenever it’s in range.
But luckily, it’s actually quite easy to make your Chromebook forget a saved wifi network so that it will never connect to it again, and in this article, that’s exactly what I’m going to show you how to do.
And later on, I’ll even show you a way that you can stop your Chromebook from automatically connecting to a network, but still keep the password saved on your Chromebook which might be handy if you still want to connect to that network at some point in the future.

How To Forget A Wifi Network On Your Chromebook
If you want your Chromebook to completely forget a wifi network so that it will never connect to it again, and if you ever do want to re-connect to it, you’ll have to re-enter the password.
The first thing you’ll need to do is click on the time in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and click on the settings icon to open up the settings app.
And then, once you’re in the settings app, you’ll need to click on the little arrow next to “Wi-Fi”.
Now, you’ll see a list of all the Wifi networks that are currently within range of your Chromebook. And above that, you’ll see an option that says “Known networks”, and you’ll need to click on “Known networks” to see a list of all the Wifi networks that are saved to your Chromebook.
Now, all you have to do is scroll down the list until you find the network that you want to forget. And then, once you’ve found it, click on the three dots next to it…
And then, in the menu that appears, click “Forget”.
Now, that wifi network will be completely removed from your Chromebook, so it will never connect again unless you manually re-enter the password.
How To Prevent Your Chromebook From Connecting To A Network Automatically
So, the above method is really great if you want the wifi network to be completely removed from your Chromebook, but if you just want to stop your Chromebook from automatically connecting to it, but still have the password saved so that you can easily reconnect whenever you want, you’ll need to follow these steps instead.
First of all, you’ll need to open the “Known Networks” section of the settings app (you can get there by following the steps I demonstrated before), and then, once you’ve found the network that you don’t want your Chromebook to automatically connect to, you’ll need to click on the little arrow next to the name of that network.
Now you’ll be in the settings of the network, and all you’ll have to do is turn off the switch next to “Automatically connect to this network”.
And now, your Chromebook will no longer automatically connect to that wifi network!
The password will still be saved on your Chromebook, so if you ever do want to connect to that network again, all you’ll have to do is click on the time in the bottom right hand corner.
Then, click on the arrow next to “Not connected” under the wifi icon (if you are currently connected to a different wifi network, it will say the name of that network instead of not connected).
And then, click on the wifi network you want to connect to, and it will connect without you having to enter a password.
This is really great for wifi networks that you want to connect to occasionally, but not every time you’re within range of them.
And that’s all there is to it! You now know how to forget wifi networks on your Chromebook, and even how to stop your Chromebook from connecting to a network automatically without having to delete the details.
