To change your profile picture on your Chromebook, the first thing you’ll need to do is go into the settings. To do that, click on the time in the bottom right hand corner…
And then, in the menu that appears, click on the settings icon.
Now you’ll be in the settings of your Chromebook. And to change your profile picture, you’ll need to scroll a little way down the screen until you see the “Personalization” section.
And, under personalization, click “Change device account image”.
Now, you’re ready to change your profile picture.
As you can see here, your profile picture will currently be set to your Google account profile picture, but you can change that to anything you want.
If you like any of the built in profile pictures that show up in the list here, you can just click on any of these to set that as your profile picture.
And now your profile picture will be whatever picture you chose.
How To Use Any Image On Your Chromebook As Your Profile Picture
If you want to use a picture that you’ve already saved to your Chromebook, you can just click on the “Files” icon at the top of this list…
And a files window will open up and allow you to chose any picture that is saved to your Chromebook. Once you’ve found the picture that you want to use as your profile picture, you’ll just need to double click on it to select it.
Now, the picture you chose will be your profile picture.
How To Take A Photo To Use As Your Profile Picture
If you want your profile picture to be a photo of yourself, but you don’t have one on your Chromebook, you can take one right now. Just click on the Camera icon next to the Files icon…
And your Chromebook’s webcam will turn on and be ready to take a photo. So all you need to do now is position the camera correctly, look at the camera, smile, and click the little grey circle below the image when you’re ready to take the picture.
Now, the picture you just took will be your profile picture!
If you’re happy with this picture, you’re now done! But if it isn’t quite right, or you accidentally blinked or something like that, don’t worry, you can just click on the trash can icon below it to delete it…
And then click on the camera icon again to take a new picture.
How To Take A Video To Use As Your Profile Picture
If you want to make things more interesting than just a boring old photo, you can actually film a short video of yourself that will play on repeat as your profile picture. To do that, click on the camera icon just like you would if you were going to take a regular photo.
But then, instead of taking a photo like this, click on the video icon in the bottom right hand corner of the viewfinder to switch it into video mode.
Now, get ready to record the video. It can only be about half a second long, so you’ll need to keep it brief and you’ll want to be ready to go as soon as you click record.
Something like waving will often work well because you can actually start waving before you press record, and keep waving until after it stops. Then, when it plays on a loop, it will look like you’re constantly waving.
Once you’re ready to record it, just click the little red button and it will automatically record you for about half a second and then stop.
Now, the short video you just recorded will be your profile picture!
You might not get it quite right on the first try, so you might need to click the trash can icon to delete it and then repeat the process a few times until get it just right. But once you’re happy with it, that’s all there is to do!
And now, whatever you chose as your profile picture, whether you chose a preset option or an existing file from your Chromebook, or you took a photo or video just now, whatever you chose will now be your profile picture.
So now if you click on the time in the bottom right hand corner to bring up the system menu, you’ll see your profile picture there.
And you’ll see it on the login screen whenever you log in to your Chromebook
And that’s all there is to changing your profile picture on a Chromebook. But, if you also want to change the background wallpaper on your Chromebook, you’ll learn how to do that in this article here.
